Hunger Games Book Report

The Hunger Games book shows a story of Katniss Everdeen, picked out of District 12 to fight and survive in a controlled environment. She meets a boy Peeta who she forms a strong relationship with and teams up with him so their survival chances rise. Katniss shows she loves her sister and she volunteers as tribute instead of Prim, her younger sister. Prim was supposed to be the one going in the battle realm but instead, her sister put her name forward. Katniss is then taken away and begins to train as the other competitors do. For me, something of personal interest would be the training leading up to the fight. Katniss nearly showed defeat and never worried about what was going to happen. She excelled in the Bow and Arrow, but people humiliated her whilst trying out the other things.  Katniss never listened to the haters and tried her best with all the activities. “Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch, this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy”. This quote proves many people were angry that Katniss and Peeta were chosen and it should have been someone older with less life to live. This quote is a cry for help, the civilians of District 12 didn’t want Katniss and Peeta to go. The system is corrupt and nothing changed the fact that these two teenagers are going to ‘war’. President Snow is forcing kids to kill one another for his own entertainment and is broadcasting it live. I think this is inhumane for someone to do something so cruel. “Guess they liked your temper,” he says. “They’ve got a show to put on. They need some players with some heat.” This quote shows Snow’s evil side to him. Bringing in players who are feisty makes it more interesting and results in more deaths, which Snows wants. I think Snow should try going in there himself because he would not last an hour in the cruel place. I think Katniss making a new friend, Rue is relatable to me. I moved to Wanaka from Christchurch only knowing one person, my cousin. Katniss only knows one person, Peeta. She has to branch out and make allies as I did. We can relate as we were both alone at the start but formed alliances and met different people. I think having friends is important as you are happier and have people to rely on. I was way happier when I found friends and bonded together which made school a better place for me. For me, I thought Katniss and I both had similarities and I bonded with this movie as soon as I starting watching it as it has some really tense moments in it.
